Patient Blood Management in intensive care patients

An article by Lotta Hof (University Hospital Frankfurt), Suma Choorapoikayil (University Hospital Frankfurt), Patrick Meybohm (University Hospital Wuerzburg), and Kai Zacharowski (University Hospital Frankfurt) reviews the current status of Patient Blood Management (PBM) in intensive care units (ICUs). Findings show that anaemia is highly prevalent in ICU patients. ICUs have been at full capacity for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic and global blood reserves are running low. The authors conclude that the current situation demonstrates the need for implementation of Patient Blood Management (PBM) in ICUs, which would dramatically improve patient outcomes. Read the full article here.
