Insights from a new pilot model to assess Patient Blood Management implementation and assist hospitals in improving patients’ safety and outcomes

In a recent paper, Elvira Bisbe et al. share findings from the piloting of a new Maturity Assessment Model for Patient Blood Management (MAPBM) developed to address implementation challenges. The MAPBM helps health care services to measure, benchmark, assess, and communicate the results of PBM programmes. The MAPBM was deployed in 59 Spanish hospitals over 5 years, which demonstrated the feasibility of implementing a sustainable model to measure and compare PBM clinical practice and outcomes across hospitals. In time, the authors hope to further deploy the MAPBM as a tool to improve patient’s safety and outcomes. Read the full study here.
