An update on the revision of the EU legislation on blood, tissues and cells
The European Commission’s two stakeholder consultations on the Revision of the Blood, Tissue and Cells (BTC) Directive closed on the 15th of April 2021. The public consultation provided an opportunity to give feedback on policy options proposed by the Commission to address gaps in the existing Directive. A total of 214 stakeholders replied to the general consultation, and 160 organisations replied to the targeted consultation. Stakeholder input is currently being analysed by the European Commission, and a report will soon be available. Further, a first external study has been initiated to support the Impact Assessment, and will be led by a team of three BTC experts. The publication of the Commission’s Impact Assessment is expected at the end of 2021, alongside the proposal. More information can be found here.
